With everything going on, it is only natural we have plenty of festivals and events going on all year round here in Asheville. There is nothing quite like celebrating the Holiday Season in a magical location, and a lot of the smaller Mountain towns have some very special Christmas events NC.

Chetola resort

Every year, the Chetola resort celebrates the holiday season with thousands of displays and lights, making it one of the most intimate NC Christmas events. Holiday celebrations will be enjoyed all around charming towns in the Blue Ridge Mountains surrounding Asheville. You will be able to take in the breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge mountains, as well as spend quality time with family at the annual Home for the Holidays events.

Christmas at Biltmore

For the 2022 holiday season, Christmas at Biltmore celebrations will include two unique experiences. The second experience is a candlelit evening Christmas experience, which runs from November 4, 2022, through January 7, 2023.

Holiday Home Tours

Just as with the Biltmore Christmas, a few Holiday Home Tours begin in November and last until January. Like the Christmas parades and tree lightings, the Holiday Home Tours are in November as well.

Biltmore Estate

During the day, you can explore the lavish rooms at Biltmore in all their holiday glory, with trees, streamers, lights, and holiday garlands at every turn. From early November to the first week in January, enjoy more than 30,000-holiday lights, 150 candles, and elaborately decorated Christmas trees scattered across the Biltmore estate. As you walk down Main Street, you will be able to explore a variety of shops and galleries decorated with some of the most amazing Christmas lights.

Bryson City NC

The City of Forest City is honored to continue the tradition of more than a million holiday lights on Historic Main Street through the year 2022. Voted #1 Christmas town near Asheville, NC, and #2 Christmas Lights spot in Western North Carolina, Bryson City NC is a must-visit destination as the time of year comes.

Winter Lights at North Carolina Arboretum

Rated as a Top Holiday Event in the State, almost a million lights illuminate North Carolinas famous arboretum gardens. Winter Lights at the North Carolina Arboretum The North Carolina Arboretum is one of the most popular activities to do in Asheville during the cooler months, so make sure you reserve a night to experience it firsthand.

Most of these light festivals are celebrating Christmas, except one, which, as you will see, is one of the more unique things you can do in North Carolina during December. The one exception is an event that does not directly celebrate Christmas but is a cherished annual tradition in the Cary community and beyond. If you are looking for things to do in North Carolina around Christmas, their annual Daytime Christmas celebration is on Nov. 18 through Jan. 8, and prices range from $30-$70, depending on whether you want to skip the lines.

Seven Days of Kwanzaa

The Seven Days of Kwanzaa begins December 26th, with various events across NC celebrating and educating those interested in learning more. With that all out of the way, let Trifecta end the year strong by taking a look at the best events throughout the month of December in North Carolina, with some stretching well into January. Throughout this guide, you will find events that carry over from November, as well as some that extend through January.

December is the time of year that the winter begins to kick in, but we do not mind the cold temperatures because of all of these warm, celebratory events happening across North Carolina.

The town packs a festive punch during the first full weekend of December with a Small Town Christmas festival. This event, which runs annually from early November to New Years, transforms the neighboring city of Hendersonville into a winter wonderland. This July event is one of the nation’s longest-running folk music festivals, celebrating nearly 100 years.

Shindig on the Green

If you cannot make it to the festival, check out Shindig on the Green, the summer series of folk music performances in Pack Square Park that runs from June through August of 2022. Find festivals and concerts around Asheville, along with festivals throughout western North Carolina, Asheville Annuals, and Asheville One-Time Workshops. During the week, enjoy brewery tours, special tastings and dinner pairing events, and specialty beers on tap across Asheville.

The Golden Pineapple

Holiday shoppers can create their gift lists and double-check them when they are in town, thanks to special pop-up markets and seasonal events. Across town in West Asheville, The Golden Pineapple is hosting Miracle Bar, a pop-up holiday-themed cocktail bar serving festive cocktails in a festive environment featuring kitsch holiday decor and professionally developed cocktails. Viewing Christmas decorations is included in the cost of admission, as is visiting Antler Hill Village, which is hosting its own outdoor light show.

Winterfest village

Along with the light show, the 2022 Winterfest village is also open at Legends Plaza, from 5-9 pm, Thursday-Sunday each weekend during the Christmas season, until Nov. 28. The holiday walkthrough and light show starts on November 23rd and runs until January 6th, featuring live music, festive snacks, shopping, and visits from Santa Claus. No Asheville road trip is complete without visiting Biltmore, but that sentiment is especially true during the holidays.
